Liz: Right on target article. Pretty unique idea, leading(parenting) by example. Appreciate the clear path you presented. You parents who are smack dab in the middle of "raising" at this very moment might be encouraged to know that grandparenting makes it all worthwhile!

Wow. Too true. Does this mean I should stop getting fries at McDonald's while I get apples for Catie? Hmmm. I guess so. :-( Good ideas Liz!

Liz: I can relate. I catch myself all the time...sometimes too late and do have to apologize. Awareness is a good start. We will never be perfect.

I can always count on you for an additional thought provoking question. Your observations so point to the multiple times in our lives that we get to decide what we choose. Children are so influenced by heritage and environment, and therefore, I've always thought very susceptible to an inherited Faith, or lack thereof. As adults, we get to confirm our parental guidance(putting it nicely), or alter the direction of what we believe. Faith seems to be one of these core aspects of our lives that is exposed to a re-examination.

Michelle,

Thank you so much for your most thoughtful comment and questions. Your reaction is inspiring to me and will most assuredly motivate me to write more and keep trying to improve. Clarity is always preferable to agreement and usually is always enhanced through dialogue.
The first thing I better do is change that picture. I'm all for getting older, but I don't think I need to be quite that obvious. Appreciate the alert.
You will note that I did point out in my article that I personally feel that whatever works for each individual and each Family that brings you through life(physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual) in as balanced and healthy way as possible(without hurting others) is a thumbs up. A friend of mine pointed out to me that believing you don't believe in God is really having faith that you have no faith. Quite an interesting concept. Faith is defined as : complete trust or confidence , unquestioning belief, loyalty, a particular religion. Only one of these even referred to religion. I do think it is difficult, to say the least, and might very well be impossible to navigate your way through life without some degree or combination of trust, confidence, belief, and loyalty. I have been priviledged to have traveled over three million miles (mostly in the U.S.A) in my life and been exposed to a wide diversification of people and for the most part have found those individuals and families who have some foundation of a belief in God (Higher Power) are having an easier time accepting the unexplainable and living a more peaceful existence.
Choice (free will) remains the differentiating feature of Human Beings, and so it is with Faith. The choice of if and how goes a long way in determining who you will be and what your life will mean and reflect.

Mark,
To add to Michelle's questions, what is "faith?" I have always found that word perplexing. Some might say that faith is something you need when you don't have proof of something. I find it particularly difficult to explain the word "faith" to kids. How do you describing something that is essentially a conceptual feeling?

Mark, I saw your picture and it appears you have been around for a few years. I was wondering, in your travels, do you believe that one can get through, as you call it, "this journey" without faith? You said that your family equates faith with God (or something like that), what about families that don't have faith in God? Or faith at all? How do they get through this Journey? Is faith even required?

Peter,
You continue to lead us to outstanding sites and raise our awareness---much appreciated!
You also have reinforced my previous decision to never venture out to do any shopping on "Black Friday."

Peter, Alice's garden vision is truly amazing! It is our hope that we can plant an edible school yard at Trollwood at Bluestem Center for the (culinary!) Arts.

Now there in lies the secret --- only your Daughter's caring can create that straight A's result, but I'll bet you're being the best "bow" you can possibly be! I appreciate your observation and warm comment.
